Biography

In 1995/6 a few ex-members of Sassem-based hard-coreband Opel Ka-Death (later known as OKD) started a new project under the 'workname' Brigade Mussert. Contrary to Opel Ka-Death the lyrics were radical and nationalist from the start, the music ranging from Oi to Hard-Core. In the beginning we played new songs aswell as a couple of Opel Ka-Death songs and some Skrewdriver-covers. Unfortunately we couldn't form a band to play live gigs so we decided to quit after a couple of years.

In 1997 we were asked to record our cultnumber 'Eigen Volk Eerst' (Own People First) for the 'Welkom in Sassem' sampler. With help from a guestdrummer we had a lot of fun in a German studio recording with the use of a worndown CP '86-megaphone. Two former Brigade Mussert-members already played in Dietse Patriotten and a couple of other members played in other groups on the sampler, so the influence of Brigade M on the WIS-CD was rather big.

The only original member of the band, bassplayer Tim, started looking for new musicians for Brigade M, as the band was already called at that time, in the summer of 1999. Tim was asked if a Brigade M reunion was possible because of the plans for a second Welkom in Sassem CD. With a partly new line-up two new songs were recorded in the end of 1999, 'Voor Volk en Vaderland' en 50.000 Helden. Because the CD took so long to come out a real reunion was canceled and the members got back to their own projects.

After the song "Eigen Volk Eerst' was released on two different samplers in the beginning of 2000 blood started creeping again and this led to new rehearselsessions. In July 2000 Jasper joined the band as drummer and later that year, former Landstorm-singer Dave joined the band. In January 2001 we recorded yet again two new songs, 'Lui, Laf en Lelijk' ('Lazy, Yellow and Ugly', a song about the Antifa) and 'Pedofielen', for yet another sampler that would be released later that year. Just as everything started looking good our guitarist left and we had to ask a black-metal guitarist to fill in as we played the first nationalist gig in about 6 years in the Netherlands in February. A couple of days after that gig, Wickie joined as new guitarist and it loked like we had the first steady line-up. From the recordingsof our gig on the Nationalistisch Jongeren Treffen (Nationalist Youth Meeting) a videoclip was made of our culthit 'Eigen Volk Eerst'.

To tease the recordbosses we decided to compose a promo-CD with 5 songs that were recorded in different studios completed with the bonus videoclip of 'Eigen Volk Eerst'. Because a lot of people had heard of the promo and wanted to get a copy we decided to release it ourselves as a CD-R in July 2001. The promo (that was sold and given away 800 times in the end) got us several offers for gigs and samplers, but bad luck hit upon us again. Wickie had to leave the band temporarily for personal reasons en we turned to 'rent a guitarist' Toontje to help us out yet again. In December 2001 we did our biggest gig for about 600 nationalists in Flanders.

In the first week of January 2002 we recorded 10 nummers for our first full CD. Because we wanted to include some 'classics' as a bonus a gig was scheduled on Tim's birthday where we recorded 4 songs. Wickie had signed up again and since Toontje didn't want to miss this one we played as a five piece a more than 2 hours show in the nationalist free-zone De Kazerne.

Meanwhile we were asked more and more to do gigs and so it happened that we did 5 shows in Germany between Mai and August. In June, Stefan joined us as second guitarist and because of that our live-sound improved a lot. In August we went in the studio once again to record 2 songs for a 7" EP and a song for a tribute to a 'well-known' German band.

In October the 7" 'Boykot McDood' (Boycott McDeath) was released with two studiotracks and two live-songs from a gig in Ramstein (Ger) on it. In November we played our first gigs in England and Poland. In December we did our first acoustic performance, with a reprise in January. Both times were political meetings in de Kazerne in Eindhoven.2003 was an important year for Brigade M. In February we released a CD-single that is free to download from the internet where we express our respect for the councillor for culture of Leiden who doesn't give in to Antifa beggings to get Brigade M out of one of their rehearsel studio's. In March the split-CD 'Diets-Deutsche Kameraden' with Brigade M and German bands Stromschlag and Schutt und Asche was released out and in June the longawaited debut-CD titled 'Trouw aan Rood, Wit, Blauw' (Loyal to Red, White and Blue) was finally released by Swedish label Sniper Records.

In the beginning of April Dave and Stefan were forced to leave the band due to political differences. New singer was Robert and the choice was made not to recruit a second guitarist for the time being. End of July Brigade M started a tour of more than two weeks through East- and South-Europa where gigs were done in 8 different countries and also 6 songs were recorded in Hungary for yet another split-CD. After the tour, the band split and Wickie and Robert deceide to leave, later to form the band ‘Westland Rebels’.Tim and Jasper deceide to take a break.

In 2004 there’s a new line-up and Brigade M starts writing on new material. Tim deceides to leave the bass aside and take the microphone instead. Tom is the new bassplayer. The new guitarist is called Rick, but he’s replaced after a few gigs and one studiosession at the end of the year by Mike with whom Tom has played in a band before. At the end of 2004 a couple of new tracks are being released among which are the free CD-single “Het vrije woord wordt vermoord” (a reaction to the killing of Theo van Gogh by a Muslim-fundamentalist) and “Nee Tegen Turkije” for a benefit mini-CD called “EuroTurki$tan” which is being released by the ‘NatRevProp’ label established by Brigade M. Only 4 gigs are doen this year, all in Germany.

In 2005 it’s about time to release a new CD and Mike does a lot of the new material for that one. But preparations and recording are put on hold time and again because of the fact that Brigade M start gigging extensively again since 2003, for instance in the Ukrain, Italy and on the first ‘Fest der Völker’ in the German town of Jena. In August Brigade M team up with Dutch Black Metal-band Calslagen for a short tour through Eastern-Europe where money is raised for imprisoned nationalists.

From September work on the CD is resumed at last. Because is has became quit clear that this will be the last CD it’s deceided that it will be released in three versions, a Dutch, a German and an English version. Apart from that has every version at least two songs that are on neither of the other two. As last extra the videoclip for the song ‘Europese Eenheid’ (European Unity) with footage of the 2003 and 2005 tours and other live-material; is added. The year is finished with gigs in France, Russia and the farewell show in Alphen aan de Rijn. As off 31-12-2005 Brigade M stops after 10 years of Rock for Volk & Vaderland!
